On September 3rd, Yoshihiro Togashiauthor of 'HUNTER x HUNTER', he shared a worrying update on his official Twitter account about his health status. Despite successfully submitting the new color manuscript for his popular manga, Togashi confessed that his back pain has worsened considerably during the process. The mangaka expressed his gratitude to his fans for their support, but also acknowledged that his physical condition has deteriorated.

«Thanks to everyone, I was able to deliver the color manuscript to the editor. I received warm messages of encouragement, words of concern, and felt your support. Thank you so much. However, my back pain has definitely worsened.“, wrote the author.

This update comes a day after Togashi posted a message comparing his fragile back to a Jenga game about to collapse.I feel like the bones around my spine are a Jenga game about to collapse, I've restarted coloring. Will I finish coloring first, or will my back give out? Look out for my post tomorrow. (Upper back pain)“, he mentioned in his publication of last September 2.

On August 31, Togashi reported significant improvement after receiving treatment, but explained that the back pain was due to the posture he adopted when working on color illustrations, which was different from the one he used for black-and-white manuscripts. It was only after someone pointed out this difference to him that the author realized the impact it had on his health.

The long-awaited sequel to 'HUNTER x HUNTER' will return to the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump in the October 7, 2024 issue. This will be the first new chapter in almost two years, since the manga went on hiatus following the release of chapter 400 in December 2022. Following the publication of that chapter, Shueisha decided that the series will no longer follow a strict weekly serialization format, in order to accommodate Togashi's health needs.

Previously, Togashi had revealed the possible endings for 'HUNTER x HUNTER' on TV Asahi's variety show Iwakura and Yoshizumi in case he was unable to complete the manga before his passing. The author shared three different endings for the series, named A, B, and C, each with different levels of satisfaction for fans.
