The story of “SPY x FAMILY” has been characterized throughout its serialization by its comic moments starring the misunderstandings of Anya Forger and company, however, from time to time The author Tatsuya Endo decides to change the pace and add a touch of suspense and excitement to transition the story into an exciting side. That’s what happened with the most recent chapter, as it turns out that Donovan Desmond, the main antagonist of the story, could have the same mind-reading powers as the beloved protagonist.
This information was discovered, quote, while Loid Forger was working undercover as a professional psychologist. At work he received Melinda Desmond, Donovan’s wife and Damian’s mother, who agreed to vent during emotional therapy hours.. Loid took advantage of this opportunity to get closer to the influential character, trying to obtain valuable information that will help him in his mission. But, surprise!, in a climatic moment Melinda confessed that she believes Donovan can read minds.
According to Melinda, Donovan has completely changed since the birth of his children: he became distant, mysterious, and his interactions only reinforce her suspicions. Even his eldest son has hinted the same. Although Loid dismisses it as an absurd idea (precisely because he knows nothing about Anya’s powers), we readers know that this is more than possible.
The most shocking part of the chapter comes when Anya, upon reading Loid’s thoughts, learns of the probability that the main villain has the same powers as him. What does this mean for the story? If true, it would explain Donovan’s cold demeanor, his reluctance to meet Loid again after the first time (because having read his mind, he already knows he’s a spy), and even his son Demetrius acting like a robot, precisely because he wants to keep his mind blank and not reveal anything to his father.
Now the key piece ends up being Anya Forger, how can she convince Loid that the possibility of reading minds is real? Will he have to reveal his biggest secret so that his father is not in danger? Finally, after almost six years of serialization, the story of “SPY x FAMILY” begins to approach turbulent and sinister seas, just as Loid is increasingly closer to completing his mission. Ah, but what was that mission?
