The popular “Slayers” franchise celebrates its 35th anniversary in 2025 since the debut of the original novels written by Hajime Kanzaka and illustrated by Rui Araizumi. In a message posted on social media, it was announced that several special projects are underway to commemorate this milestone, starting with a special edition of Dragon Magazine, which will go on sale next January 18. According to the statement, this publication will mark the beginning of a “commemorative year” full of surprises.

“Slayers,” known for its unique blend of action, comedy, and epic fantasy elements, has left an indelible mark on the anime and light literature landscape. The original novels gave way to animated adaptations, OVAs, films and a series of spin-offs. Among the most notable installments are the first seasons of the anime, such as “Slayers” (1995), “Slayers Next” (1996) and “Slayers Try” (1997), which are still considered cult works.
In 2008 and 2009, the franchise had a resurgence with “Slayers Revolution” and “Slayers Evolution-R,” which attracted both new viewers and longtime fans. However, since then, there has been no new animated series, leaving many wondering if this commemorative year's announcements could include the long-awaited remake or a sequel.
Fans have not stopped expressing their desire for a renewed version of the franchise. The idea of a “remake in the Reiwa era” resonates with the community, especially considering the success of new adaptations of other classic franchises. Although nothing concrete has been confirmed, the fact that multiple special projects are in the works raises hopes.
The news has generated a wave of excitement on social media, with fans sharing their opinions and expectations:
- «I would love for them to broadcast a version of Slayers in the Reiwa era!».
- «Hey? What will it be? I'm excited! Oh, and of course, I'm also still waiting for the continuation of the novels. When will Lina and the others come back?».
- «Special projects…!».
- «It's incredible that Slayers turn 35 years old. Congratulations! This year I want to work on something related. I love it!».
- «I hope they announce a new anime».
