An unusual incident occurred in an establishment located in the Benito Juárez mayor's office, Mexico City, when a man identified as Noé Bartolo entered a sex shop armed with a knife with the intention of stealing several products. Among the stolen items, some adult toys and otaku-themed products stood outwhich particularly attracted the attention of social networks after the case report went viral.
According to information shared by journalist Carlos Jiménez, the thief threatened the store employee and managed to get hold of various items before being discovered by agents from the Secretariat of Citizen Security of Mexico City (SSC CDMX). When confronted by the authorities, the subject tried to escape, but was arrested shortly after, crying and without having achieved his goal.
Among the objects seized from the thief were boxes of products with themes clearly influenced by the world of anime. For example, a product titled in Japanese was observed that featured in its design an animated moe-style girl, characteristic of anime. This fact did not go unnoticed on social networks, where many users commented on how these types of products have become popular, even in international markets.
This incident evidences the growth of the influence of anime and hentai in specific niches such as adult toys. These products usually include eye-catching designs and packaging with illustrations of animated characters that directly appeal to fans of these themes. In countries like Japan, this market is widely consolidated; However, in Mexico, its introduction has been more recent, gaining popularity among followers of otaku culture.
