This summer the second season of 'One Piece' is being filmed in South Africa. Netflix. We have already seen small previews of what is going on behind the cameras from Buggy himself and the showrunner of the series, but Iñaki Godoy (the real Luffy) has also been showing several glimpses behind the scenes.
Is there a doctor in the room?
From Netflix have shared a new video with the entire team for a script reading. In the video you can see Godoy, Emily Rudd, Taz Skylar and several of the new signings, but right at the end Godoy reveals that another “actor” has been invited to the meeting to give us the first look at Chopper.
The video doesn't show much, with Chopper with his back turned and slightly in shadow. But without being able to see his face, it gives us some idea of what the Straw Hat doctor will look like in the live action. At first glance, it seems that in 'One Piece' they have opted for a CGI model and perhaps we can expect something along the lines of Detective Pikachu.
But there have also been leaks about a body double for one of Chopper's transformations, so Netflix may not have ruled out using makeup and prosthetics depending on the moment. Or even that a mix of animatronics and motion capture is being used… We'll have to wait for his first big appearance (possibly in the first trailer for season two).
The main cast has already been assembled, with Joe Manganiello and Lera Abova as Crocodile and Nico Robin. Iñali Godoy returns as Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.
This second season of 'One Piece'' will take the Straw Hat crew to the Grand Line to face his first big villain. And although a release date has not yet been confirmed, everything points to the fact that we could expect it in 2025.
