The 'Devil May Cry' anime series seems to be moving slowly but surely. We're getting updates in dribs and drabs, but Netflix's Geeked Week has given us the best look yet.

From vampires to demons

Adi Shankar previously worked with Netflix to adapt 'Castlevania' to anime and also shined with the 'Captain Laserhawk' series. And since 2018 he has been working on 'Devil May Cry' with Studio Mirthe Korean studio that brought us 'Avatar: The Legend of Korra' and has also developed a good number of animated productions for Netflix, including 'The Witcher: The Wolf's Nightmare' and 'Lookism'.

With Geeked Week we have received the first big trailer ready to see Darte deal out and face all kinds of demons. And while the date has not yet been set, Netflix has also set the release date 'Devil May Cry' for April 2025.

Hideaki Itsuno from Capcom and Seoung Wook Lee from Studio Mir serve as executive producers alongside Shankar and Alex Larsenscreenwriter of 'Yasuke'. Larsen has also been in charge of the script of the eight episodes of 'Devil May Cry'.

'Monster', 'Jujutsu Kaisen', 'Kimi ni Todoke' and 10 other anime for beginners to watch on streaming if you don't know where to start (and you're not up for 300-episode series)

“Rest assured, we are working really hard because we love this franchise and because we want to make something great,” Shankar said in 2018 about the series. “Our goal is not just to pump out another animated series. My goal is to make one of the best series on the entire Netflix platform.”

Shankar is setting the bar very high, especially after the success of 'Castlevania'. We'll have to wait and see if they have kept their golden touch when it comes to adapting video games to animation.
