Hello everyone, we meet up like every week for a new Manga Monday, and today we're tackling a seasonal anime that has managed to stand out from the crowd for the moment, I'm talking about Wistoria Wand and Sword.

Manga Monday: Wistoria Wand and Sword by Omori Fujino and Aoi Toshi (Pika) (Anime, Manga)

Wistoria Wand and Sword

Written by Fujino Omori, known in particular for his work on Danmachi (which I will tell you about one of these days — and yes, I am teasing you a little) and drawn by Toshi Aoi, Wistoria: Wand and Sword is a shônen manga released in 2020 in Japan. In France, it is published by Pika editions, and its first volume will be released on September 24. An anime has been released since July 7, 2024 and currently has 7 episodes.

What is it about?

In order to keep a promise to his childhood friend, Will Selfort aims to reach the top of the Tower of Mages, which is only accessible to Magia Vende, the cream of magicians. But for him who has no talent in magic, there is only one solution: to carve his own path, without a magic wand but with a sword in hand!

It has the following gender: Action – Adventure – Fantasy – Magic

Why is it good?

We may have the anime of the season! If I recommend this manga/anime, it is not for its originality of heroes living in a world of magic without being able to use it, we often see it (like in Black Clover, Mashleetc.) but for its simplicity, mastered to perfection. Here we have a simple story, which, for the moment, does not get lost in complicated explanations or various objectives for our protagonist. No, here we have a simple story but one that works perfectly.

In addition, the anime benefits from a very beautiful artistic direction, enhanced by an animation that highlights the fights, all accompanied by very successful OSTs, interpreted by Yuki Hayashi. For connoisseurs, you will have understood that this sends heavy: Hayashi is particularly known for the music of My Hero Academia or even Haikyu!!. Needless to say, our ears are in for a treat!

The first episodes are very good and the characters, although classic, fit perfectly into the universe. They are quite interesting, even when they fall into some clichés (the rival who belittles the hero, the love interest, the mentor, etc.).

To conclude, although the first seven episodes do not yet allow us to have an overall opinion on the work, I can tell you that if you liked Danmachi Or Black Cloveryou will love it Wistoria: Wand and Sword !

Screenplay: Omori Fujino – Artist: Aoi Toshi – Pika – Streaming Platform: Crunchyroll
