The work, serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine, is a story of romance and mystery set in the nostalgic city of Kowloon, and has captured the attention of many for its intriguing narrative.
“Kowloon Generic Romance” follows the life of Reiko Kujirai, a real estate agent working in the chaotic and mystical city of Kowloon. The story begins to get complicated when Reiko discovers that Hajime Kudou, her co-worker for whom she has feelings, had a fiancée identical to her. This triggers a series of mysteries about his lost memories, his identity, and the dark secrets the city hides.
The cast for both adaptations has already been revealed. In the anime, Reiko will be voiced by Haruka Shiraishi, while Tomokazu Sugita will play Hajime Kudou. For its part, in the live-action film, Riho Yoshioka will play Reiko and Koshi Mizukami will play Hajime. Along with the reveal of the actors, the first visuals of the characters have also been presented, which highlights a romantic image of Hajime placing a hand on Reiko's cheek, capturing the emotional closeness between both characters.
Jun Mayuzuki, author of the work, expressed her excitement about this double adaptation: «I feel incredibly lucky that both the cast and the production team are fans of the manga before. It is an honor to see how they bring my story to life». The author also commented that she was able to visit both production sets, where she felt deeply moved by the passion that everyone has put into the project.
Actress Haruka Shiraishi, who plays Reiko in the anime, mentioned her surprise and happiness at getting the role, as she was a fan of the play long before being cast: “Before the audition, I had already read the manga and was excited at the idea of being able to participate in a possible adaptation». For his part, Tomokazu Sugita, who will voice Hajime, shared a more enigmatic comment: «You don't need to prepare for anything, when you dream you don't need to make any effort… Don't you think so? Oh, a new little wrinkle».
