In his post, Lu wrote: “From my personal experience visiting Japan and South Korea several times, I can say that Korean girls, in general, have much more attractive faces than Japanese girls. Korean women's skin is incomparable and their features, such as their eyes and nose, are much more refined.». These statements quickly generated a wave of reactions in the Chinese internet community, with opinions both for and against.

Among the comments of those who agreed with Lu, some users noted that “Historically, Korea has been known for having many beautiful women” and others attributed the beauty of Korean women to genetic factors: “It is natural, since Koreans have a genetic mix with the Chinese”. Criticism also arose about the appearance of the Japanese women, stating that “Japanese women tend to have problems with the alignment of their teeth and often do not correct them, which affects their appearance” and “Japanese women usually have short and crooked legs”.

On the other hand, there was no shortage of criticism of Korean women, focusing mainly on the use of cosmetic surgery. Some comments defended Japanese women, noting that “Koreans rely on plastic surgery, while Japanese women use makeup to enhance their beauty”. Others were skeptical of Lu's claims, questioning whether Korean women's beauty was natural: “I don't agree. I think Japanese girls are prettier” either “In Korea, it is common for everyone to undergo cosmetic surgery when they come of age”.

The comments continued to reflect a heated debate about perceptions of beauty in both countries. Among the most critical of Korea, points such as “Korea is a country where cosmetic surgery is massive, both in women and men.”, and some users went further, arguing that “Korean women are industrial products, while Japanese women are more like artisan products”.

Additionally, several users wondered about the veracity of Lu's impression: “When you walk through the streets of Seoul, you don't see any girls prettier than Japanese girls. Where are they? Do they only exist on screens?”. This comment reflects the distrust of some towards the image that the media projects about Korean beauty.

Finally, a segment of users expressed that beauty does not depend on the country of origin, arguing that “In both Japan and Korea, only a small group of people really stand out for their appearance” and that in both countries, extreme beauty is not common. “In both countries there are very attractive people, but they are a minority“, they stated.
