During the press conference Sony Group Corporation's CES 2025 The production of an anime adaptation for the video game was announced “Ghost of Tsushima“. This project will be titled “Ghost of Tsushima: Legends” and will be broadcast exclusively through Crunchyroll sometime in 2027.

For his part, “Ghost of Tsushima” is an action-adventure video game developed by Sucker Punch Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Released in July 2020 as an exclusive for PlayStation 4 (later optimized for PlayStation 5), this title is set in feudal Japan during the Mongol invasion of 1274.

The story follows Jin Sakai, a samurai fighting to protect the island of Tsushima after Mongol forces, led by the ruthless Khotun Khan, devastate his homeland. Jin, initially adhering to the samurai code of honor, is forced to adopt stealthier and more lethal tactics—known as “ghost” tactics—to defeat a numerous and ruthless enemy. This internal conflict between honor and survival is one of the game's narrative pillars.

Production team

  • Takanobu Mizuno (Star Wars: Visions “The Duel”) is in charge of directing the anime at the studios Kamikaze Douga.
  • Gen Urobuchi (Psycho-Pass, Fate/Zero, Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica) is in charge of writing and supervising the scripts.
  • The anime will be produced in collaboration with Aniplexand Sony Music will act as music and soundtrack partner. At the time of the roundtable, the rest of the staff and cast had not been announced.

Ghost of Tsushima Synopsis

The year is 1274. Samurai warriors are the legendary defenders of Japan, until the fearsome Mongol Empire invades the island of Tsushima, wreaking havoc and conquering the local population. As one of the last surviving samurai, you rise from the ashes to strike back. But honorable tactics will not lead to victory. You must go beyond your samurai traditions to forge a new way of fighting – the way of the Ghost – as you wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Japan.
