A new survey conducted by the medium Nifty Kids In Japan has revealed a surprising change in what children aspire to be when they are large. In previous years, “YouTuber” was almost always in the first places on the list, but this year something changed. Now being Vtuber is gaining ground! For those who have lived under a rock in recent years, Vtubers are like youtubers, but instead of leaving in camera, they use an animated avatar to which they put voice and movements.
The survey, which obtained 2313 participations from primary and secondary level studentsshows that although traditional professionals such as teacher (6.5%) or illustrator (5.8%), remain the most popular, more and more children dream of having work related to internet. That’s where Vtuber’s work enters, who got fourth place with 4.6% of the answers.

Apparently, the reason why being Vtuber attracts so much could be that, compared to traditional youtubers, they do not have to leave home, travel or worry about being perfect for the camera. They only need a virtual avatar, a good computer and can stream video games or talk about their personal life without showing their face. In fact, it seems the ideal work!
And if we broke down and look at the results of the youngest children, in primary, Vtuber’s work even tied with the teacher in third place, with 5.4% of the answers. Although at secondary level the boys seem to be a bit more traditional, focusing on professions such as teacher (9.5%) or pharmaceutical (6.4%).

Although being Vtuber is very popular today, surely those children do not know what it implies. Many younger children may not understand all the details of that career, and some of the greatest may still not be clear about what they want to do with their life, so their answers will change over time.
A curious fact is that most surveys, with 81%, were girls, which explains the trend. It turns out that the Vtubers market is dominated by men, so the most popular streamers are evidently women. Although being Vtuber is a work more than desired today, it may only be an internet trend that ends up in some years.
