Before the anime of Attack on Titan finally ended at the end of last yearit was a running joke that the show just wasn't going to end. Being split into four parts over three years gave it a notorious reputation, and it turns out we're not done yet.
Today, Studio MAPPA revealed that he has one more film for the series in the works. Appropriately titled Attack on Titan, the movie: The last attackthe 145-minute film comprises the last two parts of the anime's final season (i.e. episodes 29-35).
Talking with Crunchyrollseries director Yuichiro Hayashi said that the visuals will be updated from their original broadcast version. As for why turning the finale into a film, he explained that during development, he drew the storyboards for the final season “(thinking) it would look like a single movie. Having the opportunity for everyone to see it in the best possible environment, the theater, is a dream come true for me.”
A film that leaves a bad taste in the mouth
To be fair, compilation movies are nothing new to Attack on TitanThere has been at least one per season, with subsequent films serving as recaps for the seasons they were attached to. In the case of the fourth season, the final two parts were initially released as a pair of specials before being released as individual episodes later.
Still, it's kind of funny that MAPPA just hasn't been able to completely disassociate itself from this series and move on yet. Will this be the studio's true final farewell before committing to Jujutsu Kaisen or other projects? We'll find out when Attack on Titanthe movie: The last attack hits theaters on November 8 in Japan.
And if that movie doesn't sound like your kind of entertainment, the final chapters of Attack on Titan will be launched in DVD and Blu-Ray on November 26th.
