In 2001, Peter Jackson presented to the public his vision of Lord of the Rings with the first part of his trilogy, The Fellowship of the Ringthe cornerstone of a popular and lucrative franchise, which has had the recognition of the profession. Thus, this adaptation of JRR Tolkien's novels has brought in the trifle of $2.99 billion At New Line and in terms of awards, Jackson's three feature films have left with no less than seventeen Oscars. If the feat has not been repeated with The Hobbitwhich had more mixed reviews, let's note that financially speaking, it was also a success ($2.93 billion in three opus).

Two decades after this unexpected journey to Middle-earth, the saga has lost none of its popularity, even though it has already been nine years since The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies came to conclude this cinematic epic. Proof of this is the fact that Amazon Studios paid no less than $250 million to obtain the rights to Tolkien's work, in agreement with his heirs. A profitable contract that gave birth to the series The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Powerthe second season of which is currently airing.

In addition to this ambitious undertaking, let us note that another production based on the British author's flagship universe will appear on screens this year. The Rohirrim Waran animated film serving as an extension of the mythology The Lord of the Rings. Just like for the small screen, the idea is to offer a prequel and to focus on another era than those seen in Peter Jackson's two trilogies.

Thus, the feature film, directed by Kenji Kamiyama, specialized in the field of animation (Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Eden of the East) and written by the duo Jeffrey Addiss/Will Matthews (Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance) will take us back to a place well known to fans, namely Helm's Deep, a strategic location in Middle-earth, where the Battle of Horn-Fort took place in The Two Towers. Set approximately two hundred and fifty years before the events of Lord of the Rings, The Rohirrim War will focus on the ninth King of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand, whose reign was marked by his open war with the Dunlendings, a conflict that should be at the heart of the issues, with new clashes in the bowels of this famous fortress.

Co-produced by Warner Bros. Animation and New Line, this animated prequel featuring the voice cast of Brian Cox, Miranda Otto and Luke Pasqualino will arrive on December 11 in theaters. Enough to offer a choice appetizer for fans before the franchise's comeback in theaters, with Andy Serkis preparing to direct a new feature film, slotting in between Peter Jackson's trilogies, The Hunt for Gollum – whose release is scheduled for 2026.
