The film will tell an unpublished story of Rohan in Tolkien's universe.
While season 2 of Rings of Power Coming to Prime Video in a few days, Warner Bros. has just unveiled the first images of a brand new project in the universe of JRR Tolkien. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is a Japanese animated film, a first in the world of Lord of the Ringsproduced by Peter Jackson and directed by Kenji Kamiyama.

Kenji Kamiyama is a renowned animator who has worked on legendary works such as Akira, Kiki's Delivery Service or even animes taken from big franchises including Blade Runner And Ghost in the Shell. After a short teaser at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival last year, The War of the Rohirrim reveals its full potential in an epic and promising first trailer.
The war in question takes place 183 years before the events of Lord of the Ringsin the pastoral lands of Rohan. The king of the time, Helm Hammerhand, is a legendary ruler and particularly appreciated by his people. His prosperous reign will be marked by the War of the Long Winter, a conflict against the Duneans (or Dunlanders, depending on the translation) of Isengard, who will also be the same men of Dunland recruited almost two centuries later by Saruman, to sow trouble in the countryside of Rohan during the War of the Ring.
To wage his battles, the king will gather his forces in a fortress known to be impenetrable called Fort-le-Cor (or Ferté-au-Cor), which is better known as Helm's Deep (or Helm's Gorge). To get out of this perilous situation, Helm Hammerhand will be able to count on his daughter, Hera, a warrior with unwavering courage and bravery. In the original version, we can hear a nice cast composed of Brian Cox (Succession), Luke Pasqualino (Skins) or Miranda Otto, the iconic interpreter of Éowyn in Peter Jackson's trilogy, who will be the narrator of the story here.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim will arrive in our cinemas from December 11, 2024.
