There are works within the anime world that have left their mark and even quickly captivated fans. Many of these, thanks to their popularity, constantly have new seasons, or at least a new one every so often. But there are also some examples of works that have been waiting for more than a decade to continue their story. In this case, we bring you three highly acclaimed series that captivated fans, but in 10 years, have not had an official sequel or even confirmation of one.

Anime: Monthly Girls' Nozaki Kun

Chiyo Sakura from Monthly Girls' Nozaki Kun

Premiered in 2014, the anime Monthly Girls' Nozaki Kun was a hit with thousands of fans. Its story follows the life of Chiyo Sakura, a student who falls in love with Umetarō Nozaki, and ends up helping him draw his shojo manga. By parodying common tropes of romance stories and featuring charismatic characters, it gained popularity. With all this, it would be expected that by now the anime would have several seasons, especially knowing that the manga is still being published.

But more than 10 years after the anime's first season ended, there's still no official news about a future sequel or whether work will continue on the project. There's also no official explanation as to why a sequel didn't come out. Fans believe the studio focused on other, more profitable series, but with each new anniversary of Monthly Girls' Nozaki-Kun, expectations grow, though nothing is confirmed.

Land of the Lustrous

Land of the Lustrous (Hoseki no Kuni) is an anime that was a hot topic in its day and continues to be a trend when it comes to CGI animation. The adaptation of Haruko Ichikawa's work stood out for being made with extremely high-quality CGI animation. This is always talked about when current anime misuse this type of animation. Land of the Lustrous has become one of the pillars and best examples of a job well done.

With this, accompanied by a solid story that follows Phos, a humanoid gem in a world inhabited by crystalline beings and who fight against the Lunarians, who attack them to capture them, would be enough reasons for it to have several seasons, but nothing has been confirmed yet. Although it originally premiered in 2017 and is 8 years old since its launch, the same fans do not expect news very soon, so it could easily be reaching the decade. In addition, the manga ended on April 25, 2024, so a new season could be made, since there is enough material.

No Game No Life

Without a doubt, No Game No Life is the most talked about case on the networks when it comes to a successful anime without a sequel. Officially released on April 9, 2014, the animated adaptation of Yū Kamiya's work captivated thousands of fans around the world. No Game No Life follows Sora and Shiro, two video game prodigies siblings. They are transported to a world where everything is decided through games. There, they must use their intelligence to face powerful races and challenge the god of that world. Their ultimate goal is to become absolute rulers. Despite being one of the most requested anime for a second season, nothing has been confirmed in over 10 years.

Even over the years, news of all kinds based on the second season of No Game No Life has gone viral. In January 2025, Kamiya himself had to come out to deny rumors about a new season, burying any hopes among fans. Likewise, the author expressed his desire to continue the story on more than one occasion, but Kadokawa, owner of the IP, did not comment. Many fans on social media believe that the extremely high visual quality of the first season could be one of the major obstacles to a sequel.

These three series have captivated fans, but in all this time, they've never had a sequel. This proves that even though they're among the most popular and highly sought-after series, a sequel isn't always confirmed.
