Lucy from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Anime has grown at an incredible pace in recent years. And while many believed this was just fan belief, an authoritative voice has now confirmed this theory. Netflix, one of the world's leading video platforms, announced the genre's numbers at the recent Anime Expo. It confirmed that 50% of its users worldwide watch anime. This would be around 300 million viewers worldwide. In the last five years, the number of users has tripled, and to that end, Netflix announced the arrival of a slew of new anime.

Anime at one of its best moments in history

Lucy in Night City from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners With three times as many users watching anime today, and after a record-breaking 2024, Netflix knows that anime is a safe bet. In addition to the number of viewers, the total amount of content watched in the genre increased, with more than 1 billion views. But there's another aspect worth highlighting regarding anime consumption. Many of these users choose to watch it dubbed into their native language. That's why the platform has already begun offering series with dubbing and descriptions in 33 languages. Many of the series released by Netflix have achieved incredible numbers. One of the most notable cases is Sakamoto Days, whose first season remained in the platform's Top 10 for 10 weeks. This was in 54 countries, including not only Japan and South Korea, but also Argentina, which is part of those territories.

Netflix is betting on new series for the future

Legoshi from Beastars Final Season Part 2 And to take advantage of this huge increase in anime, Netflix already has a slew of new series prepared for fans. During the same Anime Expo, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 was presented, a sequel to one of the most popular anime of recent years. In addition, new seasons are being added, such as Sakamoto Days. Variety will be one of the platform's strong points, as series such as My Melody & Kuromi, Beastars Final Season, and Record of Ragnarok III, among others, will be added in the future. Now we'll just have to wait and see how anime continues to grow, because if major platforms like Netflix, for example, invest in the genre, we'll see an increase in both quality and the number of series released.
